Late to the party

I picked up No Man’s Sky a couple of weeks ago and oh em gee have I been having fun. The game does a wonderful job encapsulating a limitless feeling of adventure and exploration. I’ve been happily wandering through the galaxy with my bestie, Saidir.

So far, my favorite activities to do in the game are:

  1. Speak to any NPC I come across to learn as much of the languages as I can
  2. Find every buried tech and knowledge stone on my visor šŸ˜€
  3. Work through the main campaign, the Artemis storyline

I am playing on PC but I use a controller to play as I just find the keyboard controls tedious compared to console. I even ordered a new, customized Scuf controller just for my NMS sessions!

Are you playing NMS? What are your favorite things to do in the game?

The Beginning 0:1

The allure of possibility.

Thus begins planning week. As a major Type A personality planning is practically a kink. I have quite a few ideas to bring together this month, hopefully these will provide entertainment to those reading, and listening…

In the spirit of new beginnings let’s kick off the multimedia section for the month with the reading of Dark Mirror. Short, daily readings from the Destiny Grimore. If you have any feedback please do leave a comment. Welcome to #Blaugust2019 friends.

Day One : Black Mirror

RIP spotmeplzzz and True

The shooting Sunday at a sanctioned Madden Championship Series competition in Jacksonville, FL should not be used as an opportunity for media to label gaming as “violent”. Let’s not let gaming stereotypes cloud the narrative. The shooting Sunday at a local gaming venue is an indication of young America’s identity issue. Instead of referencing how violent video games CAN be, theĀ narrative should be:

What has gone wrong in our society that young men feel that taking out as many lives before taking their own is the appropriateĀ response to their feelings?

For most, gaming, including competitively, is a ‘safe’ place. On the outsideĀ gaming can seem a solitary use of time but inside the game,Ā you’re surrounded by people. And, when you’re very good at your game, you’re exalted. Placed on a pedestal. Losing that place on the pedestalĀ can be tough, on the ego and within the game community.

Some gamers have communities who don’t allow them to forget their mistakes. Summit1G’s hilarious MolotovĀ fail, or Reckful missing lethal at Blizzcon are both examples of this.

So yeah, losing your place on the pedestalĀ sucks but it’s no fucking reason to subject a roomful of people the terror and chaos of a mass shooting. Those are moments that have beenĀ taken from them that they will never be able to reclaim or find peace with.Ā

May the two young men fatally shot yesterday be remembered. I hope their families find peace.Ā
